"A Little Princess by Edith Weiss was the perfect middle school show for us! I love that there was a static set with three different areas that we lit up for the appropriate scene. I love that there were minimal sets and sound effects. We added Magical Fantasy by Dmitri Sevasostyanov for Entr'Act and some scene transitions. We had a doorbell sound. We do not have a performance space at our school and we performed at the high school down the street which is decked out with tech."
By Debra Moore - Director, Theatre Teacher - Discovery Middle School
"This one is absolutely perfect, especially for a middle school drama club. Ms. Weiss has produced the best script I've seen yet for this story."
By Joe Reynolds - Advisor/ Director - Gerisch Middle School
This play is based on the famous and beloved novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, and premiered at the Aurora Fox as part of their Little Foxes program. While keeping much of the original dialogue of the book, what I added was more dimension to the surrounding characters, the girls in the school. This way more characters have more lines. I also added a subplot of peer pressure, which is relevant today more than ever. The play is narrated by the rat, Melchisedec, which gave me opportunities to add humor. It's a good choice for a director who wants to work with a classic and has lots of girls that want parts. The Fox used one set, and the downstage lip was the street. Thanks for taking a look at it!
