The inspiration for this play was resilience and finding a way to survive horrible things that happen. Based on some of the events in my own life, my goal was to guide the actors and audience to a place of hope and to find gratitude instead of bitterness – to let go of things in the past that can weigh us down, so that we can move forward lighter. That doesn't mean to forget what has happened or to excuse the behavior, but to not let it define you. Working with the original cast was a journey of catharsis and joy, and I hope other theatre groups and audiences can have that same experience.

Amid the more intense, dramatic parts, there is a lot of humor and a lot of light moments to lean into, so that dramatic parts land with more resonance.

As is true with much of my work, directors should remember that when actors are addressing the audience, the audience is their scene partner. They're not speaking to the other characters onstage. And they should trust that the text will take the audience on the journey, so keep production elements simple.
