SYNOPSIS: Snooks Beacon thinks his afterlife is taking a turn for the better when he finds an abandoned theatre to haunt. But death will never be the same when he receives a surprise visit from the One in Charge and finds out that the One in Charge is a woman. She tells him about all of the changes that have happened since he went down with the Titanic in 1912, including women’s right to vote, Womens’ Lib, and equal pay (“What? Who gave them the right to vote?”). Now accused of interfering with the living (for fun), the One in Charge orders Snooks to work the Grim Reaper shift for 48 hours. If he collects the selected souls in less than 48 hours, he will be allowed to haunt the theatre indefinitely; if not, he’ll end up on another sinking ship.

Grabbing the bag of death dust with strict instructions to guard it with his death, Snooks is off to meet Jeeter Cheever, the first computer-selected soul. After Jeeter, it’s over to Lenny Podolski’s. With Jeeter and Lenny in tow, Snooks inadvertently picks up an extra soul in the park (a mime) and then decides to visit the last soul on the list, Ernst Koomquat, a successful real estate tycoon. Ernst is one feisty soul and manages to flush the death dust down the toilet. Short on time, Snooks runs back to the theatre with Jeeter, Lenny, the extra soul, and an unripe Koomquat to find the One in Charge of the One in Charge waiting for him. Snooks is certain it’s curtains. But the One in Charge of the One in Charge is a forgiving soul and gives Snooks haunting rights to the abandoned theater, releases Koomquat, and decides "a mime is a terrible thing to waste." Simple sets.
Picture the Grim Reaper in a Tinkerbell costume or in a lovely pink tutu. Add to that picture a ventriloquist's dummy with attitude, a dash of feminism vs. chauvinism, ghosts, and lovable street people, and you've got a winning combination for all audiences. Don't be intimidated by the idea of using the dummy. It's extremely easy to operate (no ventriloquism required), durable, and available through Heuer...and it's sure to make your production one-of-a-kind!
