BEHIND THE CURTAIN: With Dennis Bush
I was inspired to explore fear and the repercussions when somebody from the past shows up and throws the present into a state of chaos. What are the ways we keep ourselves from giving in to fear that pervades everything we do? How do we face a past that we didn't create but that turns our present upside down? It's intense and dramatic, but there are light moments and humor to balance the tragedy.
As is true with much of my work, directors should remember that when actors are addressing the audience, the audience is their scene partner. They're not speaking to the other characters onstage. And they should trust that the text will take the audience on the journey, so keep production elements simple.
