I wrote this play as a commission for a remarkable group of actors in Toronto. When I'm writing a commissioned piece, I like to meet the actors well in advance of the writing process and to get to know them and their strengths. I'd been working with the group for about five years on other projects and plays, so creating this adventure in love, trust, loyalty, and gossip was a joy. I think that joy comes through in the characters and their quirky interactions. It's had productions in Canada, around the U.S., and elsewhere, and audiences have responded enthusiastically to the emotional, funny, and magical journey the characters take.

As is true with much of my work, directors should remember that when actors are addressing the audience, the audience is their scene partner. They're not speaking to the other characters onstage. And they should trust that the text will take the audience on the journey, so keep production elements simple.
