In addition to writing and directing plays, I also coach high school forensics. It was probably only a matter of time before I combined the two and wrote a play
about high school forensics.
I started with a plot involving an impromptu speaker trying to bluff her way to the state title in current events speech, and a gag about somebody actually believing that NATO was a candy manufacturer (the North Atlantic Treat Organization). Nine years of forensics coaching helped me flesh out the details better than I could have hoped. The audience response at the play's premiere was wonderful.
If you're looking to boost awareness in your school's forensics program, Babble can be a great promotional tool. And if you just want to put on a really fun show, it definitely fits that bill, too.
