Steph DeFerie

Steph DeFerie grew up on Cape Cod and lives there still with cats Pixie and Cream Puff. The many terrific hours she has spent performing, studying and attending shows at the Harwich Junior Theatre comprise the majority of her theatrical training and the summer she spent at the Sterling Renaissance Faire provided invaluable training in improv performing and audience participation. (The one playwriting course she took in college earned her a C grade!) Although she also writes for adults, for 12 years she worked with the Chatham Middle School Drama Club because she loves introducing kids to the fun of performing. A Tale Of Two Cities was written for them. She recently published her 21st script and her works have received countless productions in this country and abroad and won numerous awards. Her most popular piece is I Hate Shakespeare! which has logged almost 800 productions in 38 countries. Two of her plays comprised the inaugural summer season of the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theatre's W.H.A.T. For Kids series. In 2020, she won the Aurand Harris Competition with High School Confidential, took Third Place for The D.I.Y. Fairy Godmother in the East Valley Children's Theatre Aspiring Playwriting Contest and Sleeping Beauty Stays Awake (A Covid Fairy Tale) was a winner of the Old Miner Children's Playwriting Contest. Her comedy?thriller for adults ldquoRed Herringsrdquo won the Phoenix Stage Companyrsquos 2014 New Play Contest. Her latest play, Invasion Of The Brain Eaters From Outer Space! is a sci-fi comedy about banning books in high school libraries.
