| | Patricia Barry Rumble, a Houston playwright/writer/producer, began her writing career while teaching science & German. She has written numerous award-winning plays which have been widely produced. Her first comedy was The Archer and the Princess (Main Street Theater, the play is now published by Dramatic Publishing); followed by Aesop’s Funny Fables; Mother Goose Comedy Revue; The Snow Queen, The Tale of Peter Rabbit and a holiday show, The Night the Animals Talked. Her first full-length play, Breaking Out of Sunset Place, had staged readings in New York and LA and won the Texas Playwrights Festival in 1994. It had its World Premiere at Seven Angels Theatre in Waterbury, Connecticut 2001. The Ransom of Red Chief was produced Off Off Broadway by Vital Theatre in 2002.
Her bilingual play Aesop’s Funny Fables, a winner of TETA workshop production in 1994, was toured by an equity theatre, Stages Rep of Houston in 1994. An updated version was produced as part of the 2011 summer children’s art at the Multicultural & Education Center for the Arts and at Talento Bilingue of Houston in April 2012.
Express Children’s Theatre has commissioned four pieces from Ms. Rumble. All of these plays have music and are designed to tour with 3 to 4 actors: Pinocchio (2012) The Ransom of Red Chief (2013) and Little Red (2014) were all summer shows that ran for at least 50 performances. Her holiday show Little Scrooge, a very updated kid-friendly version of A Christmas Carol which ran for 30 performances in 2014.
