Jill Elaine Hughes

Jill Elaine Hughes is a Chicago-based playwright, actor, and novelist. She founded Stockyards Theatre Project, Chicago's only theatre company dedicated exclusively to women's theatre/performance in 1999, and served as its artistic director/producer for five years. Ms. Hughes has performed onstage as an actor and solo performer/storyteller in Chicago for Stockyards, Theatre Building Chicago, Printer's Row Book Festival, Links Hall Studio, Scrap Mettle SOUL, Estrogen Fest, Chemically Imbalanced Comedy, and Trapdoor Theatre, among many others, and has also appeared in numerous independent films, commercials, voiceovers, and print modeling work. As a playwright, Jill Elaine's plays have been produced or have received staged readings in Chicago by Theatre of Western Springs, Stockyards, Boxer Rebellion Ensemble, Chicago Writers' Bloc, Chicago Dramatists, Bailiwick, Stage Left, Women's Theatre Alliance, and WNEP Theatre, among others, and have also been seen around the USA and in Canada. Her plays and monologues have also been excerpted and anthologized by Smith & Kraus and Meriwether Publishing. Jill Elaine has been a Chicago Dramatists Network Playwright since 2000 and is also a member of the Dramatists Guild of America, International Centre for Women Playwrights, and the National Writers' Union (AFL-CIO).
